December 9, 2016

A huge THANK YOU to the PTA for bringing Jim Gill to us last week!  We had such a great time singing along with him!  He does many fun finger plays, rhyming and alliteration!  Check him out on youtube or iTunes!  The kids always enjoy his songs!

In Writer's Workshop last week, we had our writing celebration.  We took all the writing we have done up until this point and the children chose their favorite piece and shared it with the class.  It was a fun way to show that we are all becoming authors. We have started working on writing a narrative.  The children have learned that there are important parts to a story: the characters, setting, and having 3 events included.  The most important part is the "heart" of the story, or how the events made you feel.  We have been working on our 1st individual "books" --ask your child what  his/hers is about!

Author Celebration

In math, we have been learning about 2D (circle, square, rectangle, triangle) and 3D shapes (sphere, cube, rectangular prism, cone).  We went on a walk around the school and our classroom and found 2D and 3D shapes.  Have your child point out some shapes with you in your home!😀

Discussing wants vs. needs is especially poignant this time of year.  We have been reading about wants and needs and sorting pictures.  We are also still learning about forest habitats and the animals that hibernate for the winter.
Speaking of winter...THANK YOU for sending your children ready for the outdoors each day.  We will go outside if the temperature is above 10 degrees so they need to be bundled up!  If your child does not wear snow pants and boots when there is snow on the ground, they are expected to stay on the blacktop and can't romp in the snow.  So, please be sure to send that winter gear each day!  The best way I have seen to transport it is in a reusable shopping bag.  Your child can carry their snow pants to and from school and,  this way, they will not get anything in their backpack wet.  Also, please be sure to label your child's snow gear with their name in EVERYTHING!
Enjoy the weekend and the snow that is expected!

Kohl Children's museum

We had an AMAZING time at the Kohl Children's Museum yesterday!  From the bus ride, to the stations on the 5 senses, to our free exploration in each of the rooms there, to eating lunch together - one activity was more fun than the next!
A HUGE thank you to the adults that joined us on the trip!  We couldn't have gone without you!  We are very fortunate to have been chosen to receive this grant and we are grateful.
Enjoy some photos of our day...
